bootleg audio recordings
Instructions
How to prepare your files:
- Separate your songs into separate tracks versus one file for the entire show. Use a program such as iTunes to organize your files.
- Convert to MP3 format of at least 120 kbps. There is no limit to the kbps, but keep it reasonable. MP3's only please.
- Create a text file that has the tracklist, date and locaton of the performance, and proper credits as to who created the recording and files (this is probably you!). The more detail the better. Add your own website, youtube, sp.com username, etc.
- OPTIONAL*** Add a small jpg file that will appear as the cover image in the audio player. This could be a photo from the show or an original art piece. It can be whatever you want to appear and represent your audio recording. Keep this file under 1 MB.
- Compress all the mp3's and credit sheet into an archive, preferrably a .zip. If you do not have a program that can archive files, we suggest searching the term "zip compressor" at versiontracker.com and downloading a freeware program that can facilitate this for you.
- After archiving your files, please use the following naming convention to speed up the posting process:
YEAR_MONTH_DAY_CITY_STATE/COUNTRY_YOURNAME.zip
For example, to name an archive of a concert that occurred on May 22, 2007 in Paris, France, the name of the archive would be: 2007_05_22_PARIS_FRANCE_PUMPKINSMEDIAMILITIA.zip.
You may use whatever name/handle you wish.
How to upload your files:
It is assumed you have a basic knowledge of web protocols for the following steps.
- Once you have your mp3 files and txt file archived and properly named, you may upload your files using Anonymous FTP to
ftp.livepumpkins.net/incoming
- Upload your files in the 'incoming' folder.
- If any problems occur, or your audio is not appearing on the audio uploads page, please send us an email.
If you experience problems uploading:
Try using Filezilla.
- Download, install and run, and you will see three text fields at the top: Host, Username, and Password.
- Enter
ftp.livepumpkins.net into the 'Host' field
- Leave the 'User' and 'Password' fields blank
- Click 'Connect'
- You will see an 'incoming' folder that you can drag your files into.
